Abstract

Therma Testa investigates and demonstrates how local clay can be shaped into expressive and functional thermal building elements based on a multidisciplinary approach that combines advanced design methods and low-practice manufacturing processes. The project focuses on the idea that industrial production methods of building elements combined with a craft-based hands-on approach enable the production of distinctive expressive thermal functionalities. The objective is to understand and increase the cooling potential of a clay-based, modular assembly using material and form articulation.
The project creates new knowledge and design methods and builds examples of how we utilize clay soil as a resource in the built environment in new ways.
