The Cluster for Material Studies is a research environment that explore material phenomena and performances across design scales. Through design driven experimental studies we examine, develop, and implement materials into new critical knowledge for solutions that aim to impact design agency for a sustainable society.
Studies are structured in three synergetic research trajectories of Material Making, Material Programming and Material Perception. The cluster intersects thematic design fields by connecting researchers from ceramic, glass, textile, furniture, and architectural design disciplines.
The cluster constellation, including collaborative efforts with industry and academic partners, enables unique cross-disciplinary and cross-sector research processes for pollination of new ideas, knowledge and methods that can address complex multi-scalar problems faced by the individual and the society.
