Abstract
The PhD project ‘Child-Centred Design for Play’ focuses on how a more child-centred approach influence the designer. A literature study, participation in conferences and relevant PhD courses as well as carrying out a series of expert interviews form the knowledge and method foundation for the research design together. In addition to these, conducting pilot studies and design experiments in a workshop structure, simultaneously with using tracking tools with the designers before, during and after the workshops, will identify potential changes in the designer’s mind-set and the ability to include the perspective of a child
when designing for play. Analysis, findings and discussion are supposed to answer the research question; How does a child-centred approach influence the designers’ mind-set when designing for play? The aim of the study is to
contribute to the existing theoretical knowledge in design, play and children and inspire to a new approach in the education of designers and in industry practice.
