Description

‘CONEXÃO CARIOCA’ (CARIOCA CONNECTION) is a conceptual architectural project that rethinks Alfred Agaches’s city plan in the city center of Rio de Janeiro. The project reveals the possibility of expropriation in subverting private ownership of ‘dead’ spaces (rooftops, parking lots, black facades) of the city blocks to public and shared ownership. It explores the ‘airspace’ of/between/and around buildings to create public urban spaces, questioning the current use of the public space of the streets and the airspace above private buildings. Gaining great repercussion, the project was presented at internal conferences at the post-graduate program of PRO-URB-UFRJ (University of Architecture and Urbanism of Rio de Janeiro) and was exposed in the international exhibition of the 9th biennial of Architecture in São Paulo.
