Abstract

Abstract / english

The intention in this thesis is to examine, when and how designers use sencing-based knowledge and competence in their workproces, hence through this investigation to be able to articulate and explicitate sencing as tool and method within the designproces. The focus is on the field of fashion design and fashion designers making of three-dimensional form on the body, with the use of a two-dimensional material.

The analysis is built upon two components. One is empirical material in the form of two qualitative interviews with two fashion designers; the other is theoretical ideas and concepts that relate to the phenomena of sencing.

In order to gain a multifaceted perspective on the subject, the theory is selected from different theoretical backgrounds, and consists of the books The Reflective Practitioner, by architect Donald Schön, Theory U, by innovation and management professor C. Otto Scharmer, At stå I det åbne, by philosopher Finn Thorbjørn Hansen and Multiples Intelligences by neuro-psychologist, Howard Gardner.

In addition to this, Kvale/Brinkmanns book InterView, on the phenomenological based qualitative interview and its praxis within a context of research, is used both in the preparation, execution and adaption of the collected empirical material.

The designproces itself, functions as a narrative structure throughout the text, and is here divided into the three basic stages of a before, a during and an after, or what you might call phases of origin/birth, development and realization
