Abstract

The project seeks to develop the use of natural materials that possess fire-preventing qualities in the architectural context of façade construction. This has been accomplished by testing the properties of unfired clay, which holds fire retarding qualities due to its hygroscopic/ moisture buffering properties in combination with thatch. Our findings have led to a concept for a completely biodegradable construction, fulfilling the legislative requirements of fire-safety, exemplified in a series of construction prototypes demonstrating the architectural and sustainable potentials.
