Abstract

Architecture is thus more than just a backdrop for Nevelson’s self-staging. She herself has emphasised her spiritual affinity with the art of build- ing as a possibility space of the mind: ‘There we can build domiciles. There we have all the things that have not been given to us on earth’. This is the architectural dimension I intend to pursue in my article. Few people writing about Nevelson have been able to avoid indicating this thread in her art, but, to my knowledge, no one has really followed the road that also leads back in time. For my part I hope to get a bit further than the road signs – but obviously without any expecta- tion of covering more than part of the distance.
