Abstract
Alternative Descriptions. The current ecological crisis is as much a representational one as it is physical. This project looks for alternative descriptions of the crisis and focuses on data visualisations of historical and contemporary climate science, from long before the Club of Rome to today. The project reflects on the role of the design field in the climate crisis. Design is part of the larger process of production and use and is jointly responsible for its effects. It feels inappropriate for designers to develop solutions without examining their own methods. As the control of life, livestock, landscape, and resources has caused the current crisis, this project aims to problematize ‘control’ as a design strategy, and as a means of production in the visualization of science.
