Description

Three-week international, interdisciplinary course in the application of design methods in a problem-oriented design process. As course manager, it was my responsibility to organize the course in collaboration with the Ghanaian professors. There was a particular focus on collaboration and cultural diversity.

From the course description:
The purpose of this subject element is for the student to gain in-depth knowledge of the design process with associated methods. The subject focuses on planning a process, field study as a research method, user involvement, teamwork and concept development. Methods are examined and used in connection with a design project.

The course is divided into two. The first part is a three-week crash course, where the student will be introduced to the design process and a number of different design methods. The second part is a four-week course that takes place in Ghana and where the introduced methods must be put to use in a design project.

The theme for this year's course is Meet Me, which unfolds on the first day of the course.
Teaching is based on the Design School's own method card collection. In parallel with the work, the students must reflect on their own process and the methods used.

All students work in groups established by the teachers. The course focuses on how collaboration works and the student's own role in a creative team.
