Abstract
This essay examines the unsettled course the Viking Ship Hall, opened in 1969 and designed by architect Erik Christian Sørensen. A publicly accessible exposed concrete structure for the exhibition of five Viking ships from an adjacent archeological site. The building was immediately celebrated for its architectural values and listed less than 30 years after its inauguration. However, technical deficiencies in the building became apparent and after a storm surge threatened to harm the ships, the future of the building has been uncertain. Through an exposition of acclamations and condemnations, the essay discusses the effect of architectural criticism and judgement.
