Abstract
Professional interior design for the home was as a craft placed between the job of the architect and the decorator. It was the young architect Harald Willerup who, in the early 1930’ies, introduced the craft in Denmark, and with that started a struggle to get the population, the industry and not least the architects to understand that the new craft was indispensable.
Willerup’s goal was to link the education to the interests of the industrial sector, the art industry and the craft by offering an education in all areas regarding interior design of the home as well as its appointments. He wanted to create a practical, technical and artistic education, and he had a general vision of contributing to secure a better decoration of small apartments and houses.
