Emerging architectures: the changing shape of architectural practices

Publications: Book / Anthology / Thesis / ReportBookResearch

Abstract

Emerging Architectures is a publication by Research Lab Emerging Architectures and Sustainability at Aarhus School of Architecture.

It is based on a two-day research conference in autumn 2017 involving Raumlabor, Helen and Hard, Nonconform, Transsolar, Snøhetta, Kieran Timberlake, Atelier d´Architecture Autogerée, GXN and several academics from 15 different countries. The aim of the conference was to discuss and disseminate different and emerging forms of architectural practices, which successfully tackle, in varying ways, the growing number of burning societal challenges related to space and question the traditional working modes and constraints of architects.

The book summarises and reflects the variety of angles and approaches which were presented. To make it most authentic and satisfy the diversity of different practitioners and academics, cultures and approaches, its format is a lively mix of authored articles, transcripts of speeches, excerpts of and reflections on lectures and academic papers presented at the event.
