Abstract

This paper explores the development of architecture for the elderly from the first Old People’s Homes towards an institutionalization of care and to contemporary models. Further, the paper explores a contemporary exemplar of a dementia care home, revealing underlying dilemmas between different needs linked to the dual function of being both a home and a place for care.
