Tectonic Patterns

    Project Details

    Description

The project is concerned with development of new ways of form generation in architecture. Different kinds of pattern formation are studied and used as a starting point for the development of methods for creating complex spatial formations. The project involves scripting in different computer languages and in 3D modelling software in order to produce spatial patterns. The principles derive from different fields such as growth mechanisms or self-organizing systems as they are known from birds flocking. It is also the ambition to develop genetic methods, which will reflect some of the mechanisms known from evolution theory. The methods developed in the project have different potentials for use in a design process. It is possible to incorporate several parameters simultaneously in the form generating process. Unexpected possibilities in the architectural expression and the spatial organization can occur while the geometry is controlled by the underlying digital logic, hence allowing great formal complexity.
