International Network for Exploring Youths and Fashions in the Arctic

Project Details

Description

Youths in the Artic represent the future of the region, and studying their identity formation, including aspirational consumption and perceptions of belonging through fashion contributes to preparing for a social sustainable development. The network wishes to investigate how fashion is used as a tool for identity construction among young teens aged 13-16 in the Arctic region. Cultural pride, the role of “peripheral consciousness”, global consumer culture including the opportunities granted through digital technology in terms of especially access to fashionable garments and information are among the key themes in the network.
