Project Details

Description

The main aim of the collaborative research is to investigate how the new H.C. Andersen Museum in Odense (Denmark) is linked to and expresses narratives and meanings based on H.C. Andersen’s life and fairy tales through indoor and outdoor spaces, architectural elements and installations. This is being investigated through personal experience by the two researchers with different cultural backgrounds. The new H.C. Andersen Museum was designed by the Japanese Architecture Office Kengo Kuma & Associates. The research interprets the new museum as a crossroads of narratives, some of which are also connected to nature, sustainability and lifestyles. Dr Danilo Di Mascio was a Visiting Researcher at the Institute of Architecture and Design, the Royal Danish Academy, between the end of August and mid-September 2023. During this period, he experienced the new H.C. Andersen Museum along with the project partner, Anette Kreutzberg, Teaching Associate Professor from the Royal Danish Academy. Collected information and visual materials will be analysed in the following phase of the project and presented in a collaborative piece of writing. The research project also develops reflections that allow us to imagine and design better buildings and places for people.
