Aesthetics of Interaction – Sensuously rich interactive artifacts

Project Details

Description

Within the last couple of years “aesthetics of interaction” has been recognized internationally as one of the most important and influential emerging paradigms in interaction design.
Aesthetics of interaction represents a significant shift towards making technological user interfaces sensuously more rich and engaging: tangible, graspable, intuitive, emotional, etc. (Dourish, 2004; Dunne, 2006; McCarthy & Wright, 2004a; Moggridge, 2006; Petersen, Iversen, Krogh, & Ludvigsen, 2004). What characterizes the new user interface is that – contrary to the graphical user interface – people do not just interact with technology by clicking on graphical icons and signs on a visual display. At the same time computer technology is built into everyday material objects and environments. As a consequence, making sense of these computational artifacts become to a large extent dependent on multisensory bodily interaction and people’s ability to reconfigure their expectations according to these changing experiential conditions.
