Curriculum vitae

Aida Espanol Vilanova holds a bachelor and master degree in Architecture (2000- 2007) and a master degree in Theory and Practice of the Architectural Design (2009- 2011) from the ETSAB- UPC, Barcelona School of Architecture (2009-2011). She obtained a PhD fellowship at the Aarhus School of Architecture (2016- 2022) with the research project “The works of an Architect. Tectonic matters". The investigation aims at identifying and interpreting the works of the little known Danish architect Hans Christian Hansen (1901-1978) by following an experimental practice-based approach and focusing on tectonic issues.

She has been involved in teaching activities at ETSA- URV, School of Architecture of Reus as teaching assistant (part time, 2008- 2012); she was co-founder of “Built Our Nation”, a research international group for the promotion of innovative didactical processes based on developing humanitarian design projects (2011-2012); she participated in international juries at at the UIC, Universitat Internacional de Catalunya, School of Architecture (2010), at the UVA, University of Virginia, School of Architecture (2011) and MIT Architecture (2012); she collaborated in teaching and research activities at the Aarhus School of Architecture as research assistant (full time, 2012- 2015) and she was part of the collective “AAA Equality Collaborative” at the Aarhus School of Architecture (2021).

Within practice she collaborated with several local architecture offices in Barcelona: As an intern (2001- 2006) and as a licensed architect (2007-2012) with Ravetllat-Ribas and ESSA.
