Pure Creation of the Mind

Activity: Talk or presentation Lecture and oral contribution

    Description

This is the heading in ”Vers une Architecture” from 1923, under which the above quote is stated. The quote initiates: “Contour and profile are the touchstone of the architect. Here he reveals himself as artist or mere ingineer” .
”Vers une Architecture” appear, among more contemporary manifestoes, as the probably most explicit emphasis of Colin Rowe’s thesis: ”To make a metaphor: it might be said that rationalist theory, understood to be a scheme of determinism qua function and technology, had entered into a gentleman’s agreement c. 1922-23 with a grand historical abstraction; and that rationalist theory, perhaps, had not fully understood the consequences.”
Besides this sole point, ”Vers une Architecture” is a high praise for modern times engineering and antique architectural order, said agreement between technologi-cal progress and classical culture, from where the new architecture was appear-ing.

Besides this sole point: the pure creation of the mind.
