Abstract
How we can turn the wheels towards a positive change for our climate is most often debated on the basis of an industrialist, linear worldview where hard science and measurability are the only valid parameters. Design with its cultural, social and existential properties is on the other hand completely under-recognized in general sustainable debates, reports and policy making. But design bears the potential of turning the complex technicalities, logistics and global transactions of our design industry into something concrete, tangible and relatable that can help us create new narratives and understand how to act. This chapter highlights tensions in these debates and provides examples of research and teaching at KADK which explores how design can play a vital role in bettering current dysfunctionalities.
