COPENHAGEN FASHION FILM POP-UP FESTIVAL 2020

5 February – 8 February 2020

This year we present a smaller pop-up festival when we show three unique films, all of which have the fashion icon, Pierre Cardin, in focus.

Get a unique insight into Pierre Cardin’s creative universe with the new documentary House of Cardin (2019), which tells the story of the fashion and furniture designer, who was born in Italy, but first and foremost is associated with French fashion.

Pierre Cardin has a penchant for geometric shapes and unisex designs, often ignoring the female shapes. In the 1960s, he dressed The Beatles in the modern gray suits that later became legendary. We focus on Cardin as a film costume designer and present the range of his work. In Jean Cocteau’s The Beauty and the Beast (1946), we see how Cardin’s unique costumes create the atmosphere and set the frame in the film. The film is presented by one of Copenhagen’s greatest designers, Nicholas Nybro, who as well has created costumes for the film media. You can also look forward to the bang bang classic A Dandy in Aspic (1968) starring Mia Farrow. The film’s costumes are a stylish image of the fashion of the time, and it is very easy to see Pierre Cardin’s style and distinctive design expressed here.
