Abstract

A research based exhibition by Anne Elisabeth Toft

This exhibition illuminatesd the renowned Italian photographer Walter Niedermayer’s photographs of alpine architecture and landscapes, his artistic methods, and his production of photobooks.

In his photographs, he presents the commercialization of the mountains as well as their transformation caused by global warming. Since the late 1980s, Niedermayr has worked in alpine regions around the world, reflecting on the problems surrounding man’s presence in vulnerable landscapes. His photographs reveal unstable systems in open and closed spaces and refer to social, political, and aesthetic conditions in our society. As a photographer, he consistently challenges the genre of documentary photography.
