Abstract

Thatch is a familiar historical roof covering in many regions. A Danish research team investigated whether the material is also suitable as facade cladding for contemporary buildings.
Three research questions have been investigated:
Can reed be reintroduced as a viable building material to enrich our architecture and relieve our planet?
What are the technical barriers?
What can we learn from the material’s properties and the thatcher’s craft itself?
