Abstract

Brief Project description: Tectonic thinking is a central attention towards the Nature, the making, and the application of building materials and how this attention forms a creative force in building construction, the structural principles and the architectural design.

Architecture based on tectonic principles tells us the story of its making – it refers to its overall contextual setting and the embedded meaning – from the ideas forming the program, over particular construction features, to the weathering of the building in the course of time.
In that sense it concerns the essence of construction and construing in architecture. The nature of tectonics holds a hesitation to random construction solutions; thereby it forms a critical resistance to shifting trends determined either by the economic interests of the building industry or by spontaneous architectural ideas.
