Abstract
What to make of the importance of Icarus’ arm? Ovid says nothing of it, nor do any of the other renditions of the myth in classical literature. It is a rather curious detail. This short essay compares two paintings of the legendary Icarus, one by Charles Le Brun and the other by Andrea Sacchi from the mid- 17th century.
