Abstract
Hardware Stories: the Wall is a prototype that aims to encourage more-than-human life in the heterogeneous tectonic of a clay brick wall, by rejecting the logic and aesthetics of sterilization, supporting microlife to exist in between cavities and cracks.
The wall is made by an assemblage of bricks of different natures and states. Repurposed discarded bricks have been glazed with a compost of water, flour, sugar and yeast, providing a less extractive form of glazing, as well as revealing microbial structures through its specific pattern. Bespoke bricks have instead been manufactured with a set of DIY tools to achieve geometry and porosity aimed to increase their bio receptivity. Kept together by two layers of bricks, there is a continuous interconnected soil layer aimed to support the growing of plants while providing thermal qualities.
