“Hanging Out With Young People”. A Conversation With Professor Helena Wulff About the Value of an Anthropology of Youth

Publications: Contribution to journalJournal articleCommunication

Abstract

The Swedish social anthropologist Helena Wulff has been a pioneering force in youth research, helping to shift the field in the 1980s and 1990s from a focus on resistance and norm-breaking to a deeper interest in young people’s own cultures, motivations, and agency. In this interview, she draws on her anthropological background and highlights the value of fieldwork in understanding youth. She emphasizes the responsibility of youth researchers to communicate young people’s lives by expanding the boundaries of academic writing.
