Abstract

This paper deals with an analytic description of the development of an inter-active street furniture with tensegrity structure for a local community in the city center of Gwangju in the southern part of the Republic of Korea. The project is part of a research-oriented teaching program at the Aarhus School of Architecture in Denmark and is a contribution to the international Gwangju Folly III exhibition 2017.
The project was divided into a process of two stages. The starting point of the project was an investigation at the laboratory of possible variations of form, space, and construction within the human scale but with little contextual consideration. Later, conceptual ideas were found from the scale and social interaction of the local fluctuating Asian street activities at the site, where the Korean street kitchen or ‘pojangmacha’ plays a central role between the chaotic lines of electric cables put on tilted posts.
