Eskelund: Engaging people with nature on a former waste landfil site in Aarhus (DK)

Publications: Contribution to journalJournal articleResearch

Abstract

The article describes the ongoing development of the Aarhus Landscape Laboratory on Eskelund, a 30 ha. site in the Aarhus River Valley. It is the fourth landscape laboratory to be established in the Nordic countries and has a strong focus on urban nature, landscape design and biodiversity. The project is a cross-disciplinary platform for the municipality, public interests and a series of teaching- and research institutions in Aarhus. It was initiated because of a common understanding between the project partners that nature lacks space in the city. Not only understood as area size but also in our shared knowledge and in the shape of a so-called ecological space, which spans the extremes of the three, most important core factors: nutrient quantity, water and disruptions.
