    Abstract

Recent advancements towards performance based material system characteristics as key drivers of design are currently challenging the role of representation and prototyping in architectural research and practice. This paper shares findings from a research project exploring the potential of a hybrid digital-material prototype capable of alleviating this challenge. The project aims to explore the possibility of incorporating material properties into digital models using respectively analytical and dynamics based methods, describing the shortcomings and advantages of each.
