Abstract
In this chapter, I propose that to engage in social play is also to practice democratic participation, fostering a special kind of “playful citizenship”. I address the widespread issue in a number of contemporary societies, where many citizens feel disconnected from and frustrated by representative democracy. To do that, I focus on events as an arena where such play can happen, and I develop a template for play events. By the end, you will be ready to start designing your own play event to encourage playful, democratic participation.
