Abstract

This paper investigates circularity in timber construction, focusing on extending wood’s lifespan through Design for Disassembly & Reuse and innovative timber connections. It examines the feasibility of circular practices to address resource conservation and climate mitigation. The study analyzes case studies, including connections with birch plywood gusset plates with threaded wood dowels, reclaimed timber portal frames, and a circular timber bridge con cept. The paper aims to provide architects and engineers with a practical approach based on simple principles for promoting circularity in timber construction. It also offers reflections on design strategies, balancing functionality, aesthetics, and structural requirements.
