Description
This industrial PhD project challenges current wasteful practices in the construction industry and the quantity of wood that is discarded. To work towards mitigating this, it is necessary to revaluate the potential societal value of this material through architecture in the context of the Circular Economy. As this material often doesn’t comply within our present certified standards, new knowledge is required about where and how it can contribute to the built environment. Using a research by design methodology, new approaches that integrate material traits are developed. These contribute by identifying tools and processes for working with wood that we currently regard as waste, contextualised as part of our existing material culture in architecture.
