Areas of research interests

My research interests have focussed on studies of small business dynamics. During the 1990ties this focus was expanded with research on the logic of small business management; innovation and entrepreneurship. Included is also research in management consultations for SMEs and entrepreneurs.

Currently the aim is to relate the theme of small business dynamics and entrepreneurship with themes in design research. The creative logic embedded especially with artistic flavoured designing is on the one hand seen to be closely associated with essentials of the bricolage inspired perspective of opportunity and market creation in the research agenda of entrepreneurship. On the other hand the logic of designing and of business management is seen to create field of forces inviting to an array of interesting research themes.

Research management and project development

CESFO - Centre for Small Business Research at SDU was founded in 1995. I was one of the founding fathers and managed CESFO in the years 1995-2005. I have been involved in the research management of a number of research programmes on a national and European scale.  A recent program is the project on Corporate Design and Cultural Diversity, a project funded by The Strategic Research Council (2010-2014). It is a collaboration between Kolding School of Design and Aarhus School of Business.

Editorial and review activities

I am the co-editor of Entrepreneurship & Regional Development - an International Journal. I am also member of the editorial board of International Entrepreneurship & Management Journal as well as a member of the scientific committee at Journal of Small Business (Piccola Impresa).

Over the years I have been an active referee at a number of international research journals, including Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice; European Management Journal; Academy of Management Review; Research Policy.
