Curriculum vitae
As a social anthropologist, I study the relations between sociocultural, spatial and material dimensions. Landscapes, cities, neighbourhoods, houses, homes, museums and things have been foci for my fieldworks, mostly in Denmark. In my master thesis, The Fall of the Binary, I have studied the historical archives concerning the space perceptions of the Incas, while my PhD-project, An Anthropology of Aarhus, explored space conceptions of well-off neighbourhoods in Aarhus, Denmark, based on extensive fieldwork. I have conducted fieldwork on the Townhall Square of Copenhagen, in Taastrup, in Lyngby, and in colony gardens at Amager, in Sønderborg and Frederikssund, and in Tønder together with its marshlands (all these locations are situated in Denmark). In the research project Spaces of Danish Welfare (2017-22) that I headed, I studied the periphery as a spatial phenomenon (From Provinces to Periphery). As a part of the research project The Power of Modelling (2023-26), I investigate the Ushabti, an Egyptian figurine found in large numbers in tombs and in museums (Ushabti, the Answerer and the Model: Tombs, Museums and other spaces). As an ongoing research project (2007-), I study ghost experiences in Denmark today (Haunted Houses). This project was part of the research project On the Limits of Reason (2007-2015). As a head of the Centre for Interior Studies (2021-26), I collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team investigating interiors from historical, architectural, design- and anthropological perspectives. Working at the Royal Danish Academy, I explore ideas of space and materialities as connected to art, architecture and design.
