Organisation profile

About the organisation

Futuring Danish Design is a research cluster founded by researchers, design educators and artists at the Royal Danish Academy as a network for sharing knowledge and providing research, artistic and strategic development addressing Danish design history, innovation and societal change making. The research cluster is anchored in the Department of Visual Design and collaborate with several external partner, among others Danish Design Center and Design Museum Denmark.

As part of the cluster, we do research into the education and formation of design professionals for the purpose of their becoming active co-creators of a sustainable future by way of innovative, speculative, strategic and entrepreneurial ideation and action. Our research is tested and continually developed in dialogue with the bachelor’s, master’s and Ph.D.-programs as well as in the Academy’s continuing educational programs for professional designers and architects and the many innovation- and development-oriented companies and organizations who follow our courses.

Our particular focus areas are design methodology, strategic design, collaborative didactics and social transformation, the pivotal points being the powers of design imagination and participation in decision-making, diversity, and value creation in companies and society.
