Abstract

"Why should we only design cities for human benefit? That is a question that needs to be addressed."
PhD fellow at Aarhus School of Architecture in DK, Soo Jung Ryu, asks the question as part of her thesis, "Urban Seascaping - How to Live Not Just by the Sea but with the Sea." In her research, she focuses on the marine life near coastal cities, and how we can integrate the water instead of blocking it out concerning sea level rise among other ecological challenges.
The research is based on a case study in Vejle, DK, illustrated in this clip with video footage by Communications Consultant at Aarhus School of Architecture, Niels Rysz.
The art installation mentioned in the clip, shown in photos by photographer Roman Mensing, is referring to a temporary installation from "Skulptur Projekte Münster" in 2017 in Münster, Germany named, "On Water," made by Turkish artist Ayşe Erkmen.
