Wetlands

Is it possible to imagine a practice of architecture that is continuously developing, rather than resulting in a finished, unchangeable object? Wetlands explores the possibilities of self-sufficient architecture interwoven with geology and nature and opens itself to both interpretation and transformation.

Wetlands uses drawings, collages and reliefs to explore the island as a symbol of future settlements in a flooded world. The island is a microcosm where relationships between people, countryside and materials can be charted and rediscovered.

The project serves as both a speculative map and aesthetic testing. Traces of settlements, energy and community are interwoven in pursuing a mode of expression that embraces unpredictability. Scales merge – from bacterial colonies to wide-open spaces – dissolving the demarcation between nature and culture. The architecture manifests itself as a living dynamic that allows space for versatile expression and puts the planet’s needs first.
