Transformation of Built Capital of Transmigrant Communities in Indonesia: Case Studies in Central Sumatra

Indonesian relocation projects have been carried out for the purpose of promoting population redevelopment and the use of natural resources by balancing population density through large-scale resettlement from overcrowded areas to depopulated areas. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the current status of building assets (build capital) of migration settlements and the environmental adaptations that migrants made to deal with resettlement challenges. As a result of questionnaire surveys and actual surveys for a total of 211 households in two districts in Central Sumatra, Sitiung has changed to a relatively high level of housing quality and infrastructure, while in Kumpeh it became clear that the residence level remained relatively delayed due to the influence of environmental challenges and lack of governmental assistance.
