Abstract

The provinces have undergone great changes. These changes are connected with the spatial and material conditions that influence the everyday lives of many people, and also on how these areas are understood. It is as if the distinctive landscapes and towns that once constituted the provinces have now come to be parts of a more generic and repetitive form, where it is becoming increasingly difficult to tell the differences between the places. This movement is taking place while, at the same time, some of the provinces have changed their name to ‘outskirts’.
