Abstract
In 2006 the new Middle School Building on the campus of Sidwell Friends School in Washington DC was completed at a cost of $28 million. The project is a renovation and addition to a fifty-year-old educational facility transforming the building and the surrounding landscape into a green expression of the school’s ambition to create a teaching landscape in close connection to the natural environment. The project designed by KieranTimberlake Associates was awarded LEED Platinum certification, making it the first school for this age group (8-12) in the United States to receive platinum rating.
