Abstract
In Breve fra min Have (Letters from my Garden), the Swedish landscape architect, Sven-Ingvar Andersson, produces dialogues about his garden to a wide circle of friends, colleagues, deceased and still living acquaintances such as Karen Blixen, Gertrude Stein, C. Th. Sørensen, Albrecht Dürer, Peter Høeg etetera. The dialogues work as a tool of reflection in terms of providing opportunity to examine his own beliefs, to explore the possible reasons for engaging in a particular activity.
On the basis of Sven-Ingvar Andersson’s book a teaching program at the Aarhus School of Architecture provides a contribution to the discussions about the role of reflection in design work and in learning situations at large. By engaging with the dialogic reflection, which is one of the four essential types of reflection, (the three others being descriptive writing, descriptive reflection and critical reflection), it is the aim to show how this particular type of reflection can operate as a valid alternative mode of enquiry compared to the more traditional types of reflection.
This book E BA_EXH provides 25 examples of fictitious letters that are made parallel to the design work, not just looking back on past actions and events. Hereby it is possible to use this knowledge to construct change in the practice at hand.
