Abstrakt
The curb cut is essentially a ramp cut into a street curb to facilitate an automobile entrance to a surface parking lot or a parking garage. It can also be a small infrastructural gesture to ease a usage of the streets for bicyclists, pedestrians with baby carriages and people using a wheelchair. These are cascading series of movement changes and interruptions. When entering a garage a driver turns into a pedestrian and vice versa; this role switching implies a change in values, interests and perceptions. A sadly neglected subject is this moment of an encounter between an automobile and a pedestrian which is not mediated by a traffic light or an optimised system of traffic control.
