N2 - About the semesters framework : The Autumn semester (the research semester) will be dedicated to make a deep reflection on aesthetic of the environment; an understanding and an exploration of aesthetics values embedded in it as an opportunity for architects to engage with society (as well as for humans to engage with non-humans).By reframing of the understanding of environment beyond technocratic terms through embodied practices, the unit’s 2+3E objective is to focus on speculative material/spatial/phenomenological analysis derived from specific human/non-human interaction, social requirements as well as environmental conditions/challenges.Throughout the semester we worked with a written reflection, exploring architectural practice as a productive intertwinement between narrative, critical thinking/theoretical speculation, practical investigation and artistic experimentation. “A few hundred feet from the Pyramid, I bent down, scooped up a handful of sand and then, a little farther away, let it silently spill. Under my breath I said: I am modifying the Sahara. The deed was minimal, but the words, which were scarcely ingenious, were exact, and I considered that I had needed an entire life to say them. The memory of that moment is one of the most significant of my stay in Egypt.”Borges, Jorge Luis. “The desert” in Atlas. In collaboration with Maria Kodama. Translated and annotated by Anthony Kerrigan. New York: E. P. Dutton, 1985, 82 Similar to the Open City in Chile, in which this year programme takes its origins, the ever-changing landscape of the Råbjerg Mile (Skagen) provided ground and defined parameters for investigations in the Autumn semester.
