Abstract
Suggesting the Catchment Neighbourhood as a method for making water visible and engaging diverse stakeholders in holistic waterwise climate adaptation and urban development.
Abstract: This paper discusses the results of a blue-green transition pilot project titled ´Missing Link – when the waters meet in the city´ in the field of landscape architecture and planning. The project's objective was to explore and develop methods to contribute to the transition into waterwise sustainable cities with multiple benefits by engaging a diverse range of stakeholders. This paper will focus on the concept of The Catchment Neighbourhood (CANE) as a potential approach for holistic water strategic urban development. CANE is applied as an overarching concept for integrating sub-catchments within existing planning and with a primary focus on making water graspable and meaningful to a diverse range of stakeholders. The CANE is a landscape-based, contextualised concept using four methods (a) Connected Situations, (b) Transformative Capacities, (c) Step-by-step Implementation, and (d) The Antenna Diagram.
Keywords: blue-green infrastructure; waterwise cities; methods in stakeholder engagement, multiple benefits; holistic planning; design with nature
