Abstract

Material Voices exhibits work by students and teachers from the master’s program Architectural Technology that questions the traditional division between architecture as a technical science and as an art form. The exhibition presents our engagement with current societal challenges focusing especially on material longevity, depletion, circularity, and sustainability. By embracing technical precision, persistence, and artistic intuition, we encourage a design process that acknowledges the limitations of any one way of thinking.

Our ambition is to combine technically-driven solutions that have immediate real-world application, with an undercurrent of exploratory and intuitive approaches. Through artistic media and strategies, we engage with spontaneous modes of creating that involve subconscious problem solving and experimentation to open the work up for unexpected discoveries and creative breakthroughs. Reflection and critical thinking are crucial to our creative process, enabling the maker.
