Abstract

ICCROM’s International Summer School on Communication and Teaching Skills in Conservation and Science (ISS) focuses on rethinking traditional teaching and learning modalities and exploring alternatives. It also focuses on critical thinking as a prerogative in education. Two of three ISS sessions were supplemented by online modules, which the following article considers in detail. The extensive feedback from the participants was of great signifi cance in understanding both the challenges and benefi ts of online learning and allowed for an essential comparison to be made in the teaching and learning capacity of each modality. ICCROM and Athabasca University worked on the development of a new activity, ICCROM-AU International Summer School Sharing Space, which enables all Summer School participants to come together online, share their experiences, and allow them to explain how they have put into practice, at their home institutions, the approaches and exercises learnt during the Summer School.
