Abstract

The chapter discusses the restoration of J.C. Jacobsen's private villa, completed in 2021, in light of the overall history of the art of restoration and of the major and fundamental dilemmas associated with building restoration in general. In doing so, the chapter points out how we now take a more nuanced view of the reconstruction problem than in the past. Moreover, the chapter considers the fine, even tiny differences and nuances to which the restoration architect must show sensitivity.
