Abstract

This article imagines how we can play with dialogues in urban development. A guiding idea is that urban development unfolds on multiple entangled and related plateaus simultaneously. Life unfolds with varying intensities and speed as these lives touch and are touched by multiple agencies of urban life. These interconnected and related plateaus constitute what we call urban theaters of life. Dialogue is central for both being able to live and learn in these urban theaters. In fact, we argue that dialogue turns places into lived spaces. The central question is what dialogue is and how we can work with it as a conceptual tool for creating new trajectories in urban spaces for sustainable development.
