Abstract

Today's building industry fails to align with the principles of sustainability, despite it holds a significant environmental responsibility. Since the oil crisis in 1973, the Western world has predominantly focused on reducing building's energy consumption. However, present day approach to designing and constructing buildings accommodates a variety of technical solutions alongside a high demand for spatial and comfort-related needs. This has not only led to overconsumption of materials but also in substantial negative impact on the environment.
The notion that it is possible to maintain current living standards while simultaneously constructing a way out of the climate crisis is fundamentally a falsum. There is a pressing need to shift focus towards construction practices that prioritize the use of materials with low carbon footprints throughout the entire value chain.
